At this year’s Third Sector Awards, the Empowering Tea Communities in Kenya partnership was Highly Commended for Corporate Partnership of the Year (large category).
The Third Sector Awards recognise and celebrate organisations, partnership and projects that demonstrate outstanding leadership and impact. The Corporate Partnership category must be entered by the charity – in this case ActionAid – and commended projects needed to demonstrate both social and business benefits.

The Empowering Tea Communities project was established in January 2022, as a partnership between ETP, ActionAid, the Kenyan Tea Development Agency, Bettys & Taylors, Lavazza and Sainsbury’s.
The project has helped ensure that smallholder tea farmers and informal workers are able to claim their rights to a positive working environment, focusing on challenges such as gender-based violence, access to services, supporting school re-enrolment and improving livelihoods through Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLA).
We’re delighted that the programme was recognised, showing the impact of shared collaboration in order to help drive systemic change towards a more inclusive, fair and resilient tea sector in Kenya. Thank you to everyone involved in making this partnership possible and congratulations to everyone at the awards!
