Our sustainability timeline

Our family business has been working to reduce our environmental impact for many decades. Here are just a few of the key milestones on our journey.

1990
1990

Our Trees for Life campaign is launched with a commitment to plant 1 million trees around the world. The first tree is planted by local school children on the Stray in Harrogate.

2000

After working with leading charities and planting trees in Africa, India, and South America we reach our 1 million tree milestone and then plant another million trees in a single year.

The Cone Exchange, our community recycling project, opens its doors for the first time helping us recycle business waste while supporting local community groups and charities.

We plant our 3 millionth tree with the help of Blue Peter who helped inspire our Trees for Life campaign.

2012

Our Group-wide electricity contract moves to a renewable, green contract.

2014
2014

To save on emissions, we start to import our tea and coffee via Teesport rather than ports on the South coast.

2015
2015

Our Group-wide gas contract switches to a renewable, green supply.

We join forces with TIST (The International Small Group and Tree Planting Programme) to support a huge tree planting project with tea farmers in Kenya.

Solar panels are installed at our Plumpton Park site, generating 190,000 kWh of electricity a year.

We achieve our zero waste to landfill target.

Electric car charging points are installed at our Plumpton Park site and we start the transition to electric company cars.

Bettys & Taylors becomes a CarbonNeutral certified company, covering all our business operations.

2021
2021

Taylors is awarded with a UN Global Climate Action Award for our commitment to becoming carbon neutral.

We partner with the Woodland Trust to support a five-year project at Snaizeholme in the Yorkshire Dales. The project aims to create over 700 acres of new native woodland.

The Cone Exchange celebrates its 20th anniversary.
