For the last ten years, we’ve worked with World Coffee Research (WCR), a collaborative organisation which enables the global coffee industry to invest in agricultural innovation to meet the challenges facing our industry and improve opportunities for farmers.

In 2022, WCR launched the Innovea Global Coffee Breeding Network, the most ambitious coffee breeding effort in history.

As proud members of WCR, we’re delighted that TIME has recognised the Innovea network as one of its Best Inventions for 2025. This annual list celebrates 300 transformative innovations that are reshaping the way we live, work, and thrive.

The Innovea network unites governments and research institutions across Latin America, Africa, and Asia to accelerate the pace of genetic improvement for both Coffea arabica and Coffea canephora (robusta).

The programme receives collective investment from WCR’s  200+ member companies and operates via the collaboration of 11 national research institutions around the world. For the first time, coffee-producing countries are working together to develop improved coffee varieties tailored to the unique needs of their respective farmers and markets.

In the face of mounting climate challenges which coffee farmers around the world are already experiencing, initiatives like Innovea are vital to protecting the future of coffee and the livelihoods of those who grow it. From breeding climate-resilient varieties to equipping smallholder farmers with additional training, we are pleased to champion WCR’s portfolio of collaborative research and the vital work the organisation does to secure a diverse and sustainable supply of quality coffee — today and for generations to come.
